Captains Slay Dragons 8-2

(Eastlake, OH) - For the second night in a row the Lake County Captains rallied from behind and used a big inning to help the cause as they defeated the Dayton Dragons 8-2 on Wednesday. The Captains have taken the first two games of the series.

The Dragons took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning when Mark Fleury hit his ninth home run of the year. The Captains took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning when Jason Smit double and moved to third on a ground out. Delvi Cid doubled home Smit. After Argenis Martinez singled, Casey Frawley grounded out scoring Cid from third and the Captains led 2-1. The Captains added a run in the bottom of the sixth inning when Roberto Perez led off the inning with the triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Greg Folgia and the lead was 3-1.

The Dragons scored a run in the top of the eighth inning when Kevyn Feiner led off the inning with a double. He went to third on a balk and scored on a sacrifice fly by Alex Oliveros and it was 3-2. The Captains added five unearned runs in the bottom of the eighth inning aided by two Dragons errors and highlighted by a Martinez three RBI double and the Captains blew it open making it 8-2.

Captains starter Brett Brach (2-5) got the win pitching seven innings and allowing one run on seven hits while striking out four. Brach has allowed only two runs over his last 23 innings of work. Ramon Cespedes made his Captains debut and went two innings allowing one run on two hits walking one and striking out one to pick up his first save.

Dayton starter Blair Carson (3-5) took the loss working five innings allowing two runs on five hits, walking three while striking out two.

The Captains and Dragons play game three of the four game series on Thursday at 7:00 PM with the Captains sending LHP Giovanni Soto (7-6, 2.57) to the mound to face the Dragons RHP Ricky Bowen (2-5, 5.72). The game can be heard on AM 1330 WELW, ESPN 970 WFUN and on the internet at captainsbaseball.com.

Thursday is "Thirsty Thursday" presented by ESPN 850 WKNR. The night will feature a nickel beer Happy Hour from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM and then half price draft beer and soda until 9 PM. Thursday night is also "Military ID Night" presented by Lake County Speedway. Military members, their family and friends will receive $5 box seat tickets with a valid military ID. The Captains will offer a pizza and wing buffet for only $10 which is located by the Corona Castaway's Bar. It is also Jimmy Buffett tribute night. Shane Phillips will be performing a pre-game concert and there will be a jersey auction following the game as the Captains will be wearing special parrothead jerseys with the proceeds of the auction benefiting Captains Charities. There will be a special fireworks extravaganza following the game.
