Sand Gnats Streak Stopped at Ten Games
Hickory, NC - The Savannah Sand Gnats' ten-game winning streak came to end on Saturday at L.P. Frans Stadium as the Hickory Crawdads won 3-2. The Gnats remain tied for first place in the South Atlantic League Southern Division.
Hickory (39-22) put two runners on base in the second inning with singles from RF Luke Tendler and 2B Carlos Arroyo. 1B Rock Shoulders scored both runners with a double to right.
Savannah (34-28) scored single runs in the third and fourth innings to tie the game at two. SAL All-Star 2B Jonathan Johnson singled to lead off the third, stole second, and scored on a ground ball from RF Wuilmer Becerra. In the fourth, CF John Mora walked and scored on a sacrifice fly from LF Vicente Lupo.
Tied at two, Crawdads' LF Eduardo Pinto tripled and scored on a single from catcher Jose Trevino to end the night's scoring in the sixth.
Gnats' starter RHP Corey Oswalt (3-3) took his third loss of the year after throwing 7.0 innings allowing just three runs (all earned) on six hits and striking out four. LHP Alberto Baldonado tossed a hitless inning of relief, his fourth consecutive hitless appearance.
The Gnats and 'Dads continue their four-game series tomorrow at 5 PM. The Sand Gnats will start RHP Ricky Knapp (1-0, 2.08), while the Crawdads will start RHP Ariel Jurado in game three.
