Aune, R'Dogs End Tourists Streak

June 14, 2015

ASHEVILLE, NC-- Austin Aune had a huge game for the visiting Charleston RiverDogs on Sunday afternoon as they defeated the Asheville Tourists 10-5. The designated hitter finished 4-for-5 with two doubles, a triple, and an inside-the-park Home Run.

Asheville played some small ball in the second inning and emerged with a pair of runs. They led Charleston 2-1 heading to the fourth. The RiverDogs plated a pair in the top of the fourth highlighted by Aune's triple. In the fifth, Aune hit a slicing fly ball to left field that found its way past Wes Rogers and rolled into the corner. The eventual inside-the-park Home Run plated three runs and blew the game open.

Charleston tacked on one in the sixth and one in the eighth before Asheville mounted their biggest rally of the day. In the bottom of the eighth, Max White plated two with a single into right. Drew Weeks later scored White with a double down the third base line.

Chris Breen's lead-off Home Run in the top of the ninth was the final run of the game, but Aune still had one more at-bat. The left-hander was a single shy of the cycle and drove one off the centerfield wall. Aune decided to forgo the cycle and ended up standing at second base with his second double of the day.

Carlos Polanco suffered the loss for the Tourists in his first start since June 2. Conner Kendrick worked five innings for the visitors in his first ever South Atlantic League start. Kendrick notched the win by allowing only two runs.

Asheville and Charleston wrap up their four-game series on Monday night.
