Candelario activated, Blackburn placed on DL
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (JUNE 15, 2015) - The Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, have activated third baseman Jeimer Candelario from the 7-day disabled list. In a corresponding roster move, right-hander Paul Blackburn has been placed on the 7-day disabled list.
Candelario, 21, was placed on the disabled list on June 10 (retroactive to June 6), and hasn't played since the doubleheader on June 5 against the Carolina Mudcats (Class A-Advanced, Atlanta Braves). The switch-hitting Candelario leads the team with 16 doubles, which is also the third-best total in the Carolina League. His 21 RBI are fifth-most on the club, and he returns with a .266 batting average and four home runs in 50 games played.
Blackburn, 21, carries a 4-3 record and a 4.66 ERA in 10 starts this season, with 34 strikeouts and 13 walks in 48 1/3 innings pitched. After a string of four straight starts allowing two or fewer runs, Blackburn surrendered a career-high six runs, all earned, at Frederick on June 11.
The Pelicans are back in action Monday night when they take on the Winston-Salem Dash at BB&T Ballpark. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET.
The 2015 season marks the 17th season for the Pelicans franchise and first as the Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. For information on tickets to see the Pelicans in 2015, please call (843) 918-6000, e-mail [email protected], or visit www.MyrtleBeachPelicans.com.
