Pitchers of the Week

For the week ending June 14
June 15, 2015

Here's a look at the top pitching performers in each league for the week ending June 14:

International League
Chris Jones, Norfolk

(1-0, 0.00 ERA, 1 G, 1 GS, 7 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 HR, 0 HBP, 0 BB, 6 K)
The 26-year-old southpaw carried a perfect game into the sixth inning of his one start last week and finished just a single shy of the milestone. The 2007 15th-rounder pitched in relief for much of his pro career but has thrown well in the Tides' rotation the last two years. This season, the Orioles farmhand has a 2.06 ERA in seven starts and has allowed just one earned run over his past three starts combined.

Pacific Coast League
Marcos Mateo, El Paso

(1-0, 0.00 ERA, 3 G, 0 GS, 5 1/3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 HR, 0 HBP, 3 BB, 8 K)
The 31-year-old right-handed reliever has a 2.00 ERA in 20 appearances with the Chihuahuas, including three sparkling appearances last week. Molina capped the week with three scoreless innings on Saturday, striking out three Sacramento hitters while working around one hit and one run. Mateo has 35 strikeouts in 27 innings this year and has allowed just one home run.

Eastern League
Will Roberts, Akron

(1-0, 0.00 ERA, 1 G, 1 GS, 1 CG, 1 SHO, 9 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 HR, 0 HBP, 1 BB, 7 K)
Roberts posted his first complete game since 2012 and the first nine-inning shutout of his pro career last week, retiring the final 13 batters he faced in a 3-0 win over New Hampshire. The 24-year-old is repeating the Eastern League with a 3.70 ERA through 12 starts on his second go-round. The Indians right-hander has pounded the strike zone, walking just 10 batters over 73 innings this season. Over his past six starts, he has a 24-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Southern League
Brooks Hall, Biloxi

(2-0, 0.60 ERA, 2 G, 2 GS, 15 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 HR, 0 HBP, 2 BB, 12 K)
Hall's gem on Sunday was well timed, as he helped the Shuckers lock up an improbable first-half Southern League South division title after Biloxi began the year with a 54-game road trip. The Brewers prospect allowed two hits over eight innings in a 9-0 win, striking out five and inducing 10 groundouts. "I'm pitching well right now and being consistent on the mound, throwing strikes," Hall told MiLB.com. "To throw eight innings like that in a clinching win is just incredible."

Texas League
Arturo Reyes, Springfield

(2-0, 0.00 ERA, 2 G, 2 GS, 13 2/3 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 HR, 0 HBP, 3 BB, 15 K)
On Sunday, the right-hander took a perfect game into the final inning but allowed a single to Tulsa's Kyle Farmer moments before rain ended the game after seven innings. Through eight Double-A starts this year, the 2013 40th-round pick has a 1.90 ERA with 39 strikeouts in 42 2/3 innings. The Gonzaga product boasts a 2.94 ERA in 44 professional appearances and is making a bid to join college teammate and Cardinals No. 2 prospect Marco Gonzales in Triple-A at some point this year.

California League
Victor Alcantara, Inland Empire

(1-0, 0.00 ERA, 1 G, 1 GS, 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 HR, 0 HBP, 1 BB, 4 K)
The California League is a lousy place to be a pitcher, and Stockton's Banner Island Ballpark is among the circuit's more hitter-friendly venues. That didn't stop Alcantara from dominating the Ports in Stockton last week, tossing seven scoreless in a 3-1 66ers' win. Per Inland Empire manager Denny Hocking, Alcantara's biggest issue this year has been navigating the first inning. The right-hander survived the first against Stockton, then rolled to his best outing of the season. "Tonight, he was dominant and overpowering. There weren't many comfortable swings against him," Hocking said.

Carolina League
Alec Mills, Wilmington

(0-0, 0.00 ERA, 1 G, 1 GS, 8 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 HR, 0 HBP, 0 BB, 4 K)
The 2012 22nd-round pick has featured swing-and-miss stuff in his Class A Advanced debut this season, striking out 68 in 68 2/3 innings while going 4-3 with a 2.62 ERA. His eight scoreless frames Saturday marked his best outing of the season as he dominated Salem in a 1-0 loss. The Royals' right-hander induced nine groundouts as he went eight frames for the second time in three starts.

Florida State League
Edubray Ramos, Clearwater

(1-0, 0.00 ERA, 3 G, 1 SV, 7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 HR, 0 HBP, 0 BB, 10 K)
The 22-year-old Venezuelan has been among the Minor League's top relievers this season, and last week included some of his best work. Ramos made a pair of scoreless, two-inning appearances early in the week. Then on Sunday, he entered in the seventh inning and struck out the first five batters he faced en route to three perfect innings with six punchouts in a 9-5 win over Brevard County. Ramos has a 1.86 ERA with five saves in 23 appearances with the Threshers this season.

Midwest League
Sean Brady, Lake County

(2-0, 0.00 ERA, 2 G, 2 GS, 12 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 HR, 0 HBP, 4 BB, 11 K)
The 21-year-old left-hander began his week by allowing a run over six innings in the Captains' 4-2 win over the Beloit Snappers, then followed up with six frames in an 8-0 win over Kane County on Sunday. The 2013 fifth-round pick is 5-3 with a 2.88 ERA in 12 appearances, and has allowed just one earned run over his last three outings.

South Atlantic League
Josh Taylor, Lakewood

(1-0, 0.00 ERA, 1 G, 1 GS, 7 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 HR, 0 HBP, 0 BB, 6 K)
The 6-foot-5 Phillies left-hander stood even taller than usual last week, slimming his ERA to 4.73 with seven scoreless frames against Lexington. Taylor has been a whiff machine this season, striking out 56 in 51 1/3 innings with the BlueClaws. He's also allowed just 16 walks and four homers, which has helped him produce a 3.29 FIP in 10 starts. Taylor went undrafted out of Georgia College before signing with the Phillies. He's getting his first extended pro action this season and already looking like a worthy pickup by Philadelphia.
