Rowland Added to All-Star Roster
The Midwest League announced today that Peoria Chiefs reliever Robby Rowland has been added to the West roster for next Tuesday's All-Star Game at Dozer Park. The addition of Rowland gives the Chiefs five All-Stars, including four pitchers.
Rowland, 23, is 1-1 with a 1.45 ERA with nine saves in 22 games for the Chiefs this season. The right-hander has struck out 35 batters and walked just four in 31 innings of work. Midwest League batters are hitting just .170 against Rowland this season. He is tied for first in the MWL in appearances with 22 and third in saves with nine. A native of Cloverdale, California, Rowland is in his first season with the St. Louis Cardinals after stints with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Pittsburgh Pirates. He was originally drafted by Arizona in the third round of the 2010 draft out of Cloverdale High School and has pitched in the Advanced-A Florida State League.
The 51st Midwest League All-Star Classic will be played at Peoria's Dozer Park at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23. Gates will open at 5:00 p.m. and the Home Run Derby begins at 5:30 p.m. and is included in the ticket for the game.
