IronBirds Announce New On-Field Emcee

Tess Strang takes over as Game Entertainment Coordinator
June 16, 2015
The Aberdeen Ironbirds have announced a new on-field emcee for the 2015 season. Tess Strang will take over as the in-stadium face of all promotions and on-field games. Strang comes to the Ironbirds from the town of Urbana-Champaign, Illinois. She emceed in the Frontier League for the past two seasons with the Florence Freedom in 2013 and the Joliet Slammers in 2014.

She discovered her talent as an emcee in an unconventional way while working with the Florence Freedom. "When I was at Florence, our emcee just quit right before a game. And we needed somebody. I wasn't afraid of completely embarrassing myself, so I said, 'I'll do it!'" said Strang, who enters her third season in minor league baseball.

"We are extremely excited to have Tess continue to innovate and evolve the IronBirds in-game presentation. Delivering an experience worthy of the Ripken name is our goal each and every game. We have had a long track record of success with the people that have come before her and we look forward to her taking us to new heights." Said Joe Harrington, GM of the Aberdeen IronBirds

The Millikin University product earned a BA in sports communication and started second base for the Big Blue softball team. "Baseball is in my blood. I enjoy it because it's nine innings of fun! I played all the way until I grew out of youth baseball and switched over to softball.

Strang says that she enjoys her job the most when she can see that everyone is having a good time and especially when she can deliver a once in a lifetime moment to a young fan. "When you've got a game, The fans are in it, the kid is in it, running around, doing whatever it is that he's doing and you can see the light on his face like 'this is the best moment of my life!'"

You can catch Strang in action all season long at Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium. The IronBirds open up at home against Hudson Valley on June 19, at 7:35 p.m. Fireworks will follow the ballgame brought to you by Fireworks Extravaganza.
