Mobile scores early and beats Mississippi to even up the series

Pearl, MS- In the fourth game of a five game series, the Mobile Bay Bears scored three runs in the top of the first and never looked back. Three unearned runs came to the plate for Mobile in the bottom of the 1st inning. They went on to score three more times and also limited the Braves to just one hit from the 5th inning on. Tom Layne earned his eleventh win of the season and his third against Mississippi.

In the 1st inning, Randall Delgado struck out the first two batters he faced and was off to a good start until Collin Cowgill came to the plate. Cowgill walked and so did Konrad Schmidt. Bryan Byrne then reached on a Maruo Gomez error to load the bases. Taylor Harbin then came up with with two outs and the bases loaded and popped one up into foul territory, a pop fly that was dropped by catcher Jesus Sucre. The error kept the inning alive and Harbin laced a triple off of the left field wall to clear the bases. None of the runs were earned, but the Braves trailed 3-0 after a half inning. An inning later, Jacob Elmore scored on a triple from Evan Frey to make to score 4-0.

In the 3rd inning, Mississippi got on the board as Donell Linares came in on a sac-fly off of the bat of Tyler Pasternicky. With the score 4-1, Mississippi came up in the 4th and scored one more run. This time, the Braves got a double from Mauro Gomez, which was followed with singles from Michael Daniel and Donell Linares. After the 4th, Mississippi had cut the lead to two runs, but that would be as close as the Braves would get.

Donell Linares had a base hit in the bottom if the 7th inning, which was his third of the game. Unfortunately, it was the only hit the Braves had after the 4th inning. Mobile closed well with two more runs in top of 9th. Evan Frey scored on a passed ball and Ollie Linton scored on a Konrad Schmidt single to give Mobile a 6-2 lead. They would hold on to win by that same score.

Tomorrow night at Trustmark Park, the Braves and Bay Bears will play the rubber game of the series tomorrow at 7:05. RHP Jacob Thompson (6-7; 5.27) will get the start for Mississippi, while LHP Pat McAnaney (4-9; 5.44) will go for Mobile.
