Schugel Hooks Blue Wahoos 5-3

PENSACOLA, FL - RHP A.J. Schugel shutout the Blue Wahoos for seven innings as the Mobile BayBears topped the Pensacola Blue Wahoos 5-3 Wednesday night at Pensacola Bayfront Stadium. The win snapped a five game losing streak for Mobile and the victory was the BayBears fifth win over the Blue Wahoos in six contest this season.

Mobile scored first in the first inning when Jack Reinheimer reached on an error to begin the game and scored on a RBI ground out from Brandon Drury. Mobile tacked on another run in the fourth frame with a RBI double off the bat of Gabriel Guerrero. Rudy Flores stretched the lead to 3-0 with a RBI double in the eighth inning but the lead did not hold.

Pensacola tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the eighth inning when Marlon Byrd hammered a three-run homer to left off of BayBears righty Jake Barrett.

Schugel settled for a no decision despite allowing no runs on just six hits, striking out a season-high eight batters in seven innings on the mound.

The BayBears and Blue Wahoos continue their five game set with game two scheduled for 6:35 PM Thursday night at Pensacola Bayfront Stadium. They BayBears and rest of the Southern League will be idol Monday, June 22 - Wednesday June 24 for the 2015 Southern League All-Star game in Montgomery, Alabama. The BayBears will return home to open the second half of the season when they host the Tennessee Smokies in a five game series at Hank Aaron Stadium June 25 - 29.
