Jose Canseco Appearance Slated for July 10th
Former Major Leaguer Jose Canseco will be coming to the Hill City in July for a special Home Run Challenge and appearance that will see Canseco go up against members of the Lynchburg community, presented by Pepsi. The gates will open on Friday, July 10th at 5:30pm. The Home Run challenge will take place on the field at 6:00pm with the Hillcats game against the Wilmington Blue Rocks to begin at 7:00pm.
Once the game starts, Canseco will sign autographs on the concourse for an hour and a half. Fans can receive an autograph for $5 with a one item limit.
The Hillcats will also hold a meet-and-greet with autographs (a limit of two items) from 5:25-5:55pm for the first 50 fans to purchase meet-and-greet passes, which will go on sale on Monday, June 29th at 9am. The passes are $35 per person or $25 for season ticket holders and include admission to the game. Passes can be purchased in person at the Box Office or by phone at 434-528-1144 during business hours (Monday-Friday 9am-5pm).
The Hillcats will be assembling representatives from the area to compete against Canseco for the Home Run Challenge. Each participant will have 10 hits to try to put the ball over the fence. Participants include representatives from the Lynchburg Fire Department, Lynchburg Police Department, Pepsi and WSET.
Canseco made his Major League debut in 1985 with the Oakland Athletics, though he played with seven different teams during his career through 2001. The two-time American League home run champion and two-time World Series champion holds the world record for longest home run with a softball at 622 feet. He had a career batting average of .266, hit a total of 462 home runs and had a total of 1,407 RBIs.
"We're very excited to have a prolific hitter like Canseco coming to Lynchburg" said Josh Duffy, Director of Group Sales. This is a great opportunity for our fans and community to meet an athlete of his caliber. More than just signing autographs, Canseco will give us a glimpse of his powerful swing as he competes against a handful of local hitters in the home run challenge. It's going to be a great event and a truly unique experience for Hillcats fans and the city of Lynchburg."
