D-Jays Squander Opportunities in 4-1 Loss to Cards
Jupiter, FL - The Blue Jays had their opportunities on Thursday afternoon, but stranded nine base runners in a 4-1 loss to the Palm Beach Cardinals at Roger Dean Stadium. The Cardinals took three of four in the series.
Like the D-Jays last night, all of Palm Beach's runs scored with two out. Luke Voit's solo home run in the third inning ended up being the game-winner.
Jairo Labourt (2-4) pitched well in a losing effort for Dunedin. The Jays lefty went 5.2 innings and only surrendered two hits. He walked four and struck out three. Alberto Tirado and Justin Shafer each tossed scoreless frames out of the D-Jays bullpen.
Trey Nielson (7-4) danced in and out of trouble, but the Palm Beach right-hander pitched six strong innings for the Cardinals. He allowed six hits and one run. Derrick Loveless led the way for the D-Jays with two hits, including a double. He also scored Dunedin's only run on Ian Parmley's sacrifice-fly.
The Blue Jays have three days off for the All-Star Break before resuming play on Monday night at Tampa. First pitch from George M. Steinbrenner Field is at 7:00 p.m. and the action can be heard on DunedinBlueJays.com.
