Extra base hits were the theme for the Wings in the first inning, as Danny Santana opened up the hitting for the Wings with a triple to lead off the game. Santana scored after the next batter, James Beresford, drove him home with an RBI double. Eric Fryer had a base hit of his own, extending his season-high hitting streak to ten games. Later in the inning, Oswaldo Arcia had an RBI double of his own, scoring Fryer. Rodriguez kept the scoring going with yet another RBI double, scoring Arcia, and the Wings found themselves ahead 3-0 at the end of the first.
After two solid innings from Red Wings starter Jason Wheeler, the wheels fell off for the lefty. The Wings found themselves with the bases loaded and no outs after an error by Wheeler, and a pair of RailRiders singles. Wheeler then hit Rob Refsnyder with a pitch, scoring Nick Noonan for the the first run of the night for the RailRiders. Kyle Roller grounded out on the next ball hit into play, but Ben Gamel managed to score. Gregorio Petit tied up the game with an RBI single, and a Cole Figueroa walk loaded the bases for the second time in the inning. Austin Romine cleared the bases, hitting a grand slam and putting the RailRiders up 7-4. After a Noonan single, Wheeler's night came to an early end. The Wings responded in the third inning, as Eric Fryer began the inning by reaching on an error. After two consecutive fly outs, RailRiders starter Esmil Rogers' night came to an end, and he was replaced by Matt Tracy. Renaldo Rodriguez was the first Wings hitter to face Tracy, and he took the ninth hit of the at bat out of the park, putting the Wings back to within two, 7-5. Rogers pitched 2 2/3 innings, giving up four runs on seven hits, and striking out one. He threw 56 pitches, 37 for strikes.
The Wings continued to close the scoring gap in the fifth inning. A Fryer walk, a Danny Ortiz base hit, and an Arcia walk in consecutive at bats loaded the bases for the Wings. Rodriguez kept his stellar performance at the plate going, driving home Fryer with a sacrifice fly, giving Rodriguez his third consecutive at bat of the night with an RBI, and bringing the Wings to within one.
Wings right-hander Alex Meyer took the mound in relief of Wheeler, and pitched three scoreless innings before running into trouble in the seventh inning. A fielding error by Santana, and a Gregorio Petit single put men on first and second for the RailRiders. Two batters later, Austin Romine drove home both base runners, putting the RailRiders up 9-6, and ending Meyer's night. Logan Darnell took over for Meyer.
Rodriguez knocked in his fourth run of the night in the seventh, as the Wings pulled within two runs at 9-7. The Wings had a chance for more, but Fryer was called out sliding into home on a very close play for the second out.
Darnell gave the Wings 1 1/3 strong innings before exiting in the ninth inning, allowing an unearned run on one hit and a walk while striking out two.
Mark Hamburger and Ryan O'Rourke split the remainder of the ninth inning. Hamburger walked a batter in 1/3 innings pitched, and O'Rourke allowed a sacrifice fly, and struck one out, in 2/3 innings pitched.

1933 - The Red Wings, once again, captured both ends of a doubleheader in Albany against the Albany Senators, 5-2 and 4-3.1986 - Englishman Peter Dowdeswell, who held 17 world records for eating or drinking, broke his own record by chugging a yard of ale in 4.95 seconds in front of 3,577 at Silver Stadium before The Red Wings' game against the Toledo Mud Hens. The Wings night was not as successful as Dodswell's as they were edged 6-5 by Toledo.
2005 - The Red Wings rallied late to take Saturday night's game from the Toledo Mud Hens at Frontier Field 5-3. Boof Bonser pitched excellent baseball, going six innings allowing only one run and striking out 7. Bonser is now second in the International League in strikeouts with 83 on the season.
1889 - Left-handed pitching star Ed Cushman of Toledo records a no-hitter in the franchise's only season in the League during the 19th century. Cushman gets plenty of support from his teammates as the Black Pirates defeat Rochester 8-0. Cushman would finish the year with a record of 18-14, and a League-best 194 strikeouts. Following the season Toledo rejoined the American Association, bringing a handful of players (including Cushman) with them back to the Major League level. Cushman would return however, leading the circuit in strikeouts again in 1890 as a member of the Toronto Canucks.
1942 - Paul McCartney, Musician/Member of The Beatles... 1966 - Sandy Alomar, Professional baseball player (Cleveland Indians)
1962 - Hank Aaron of the Braves reaches the left-center field bleachers at the Polo Grounds, the second player to find the center field bleachers in two days and only the third ever. The Braves win 7-1.
