CURVE, Pa. - In front of crowd of 5,903 at Peoples Natural Gas Field and in the homes of many others thanks to a nationally televised game, the Curve used a big five-run fifth inning to down the Senators, 7-3, to pick up their 40th win of the season. The win also gave Curve skipper Tom Prince his 400th career win as a manager at the minor league level.
Altoona (40-27) pushed two runs in the first inning off the bat of Edward Salcedo with the bases loaded. Max Moroff started the inning with a single to extend his season best 12-game hitting streak. Josh Bell followed Moroff with a single of his own while Mel Rojas Jr. walked to load the base. Salcedo ripped his two-run single through the left side and put the Curve ahead.
After Harrisburg (29-39) scored two runs in the top of the fifth to go ahead in the game, 3-2, the Curve put themselves ahead for good in the bottom half when they sent 10 men to the plate.
Eric Wood's single started the five-run fifth inning. With Wood, Moroff and Bell on base, Rojas ripped a double down the right-field line to score Wood and Moroff to put the Curve ahead, 4-3. Salcedo added his third RBI of the game with a single to left field to score Bell, making it 5-3. Sebastian Valle plated two more runs doubling in Rojas and Salcedo.
The combination of Rojas, Salcedo and Valle (five, six and seventh in the order) accounted for all seven of the Curve's runs. The trio went 5-for-11, seven RBI and two runs.
Curve starter Jason Creasy (Win, 8-1) pitched 5.2 innings while allowing three runs on five hits. Relievers Jhondaniel Medina and Brett McKinney pitched 3.1 innings of perfect relief work while allowing only one baserunner (walk) and one strikeout.
Altoona and Harrisburg will continue the series Monday afternoon with first pitch in Game 1 of the doubleheader starting at 4:30 p.m. Monday will be Mega Monday presented by the Altoona Mirror with $1 bleacher tickets and special pricing on meatball subs from by Mama Randazzo's. Monday is a Guaranteed Win Night as well and if the Curve do not win on Monday, fans can receive a free ticket to another Monday home game this season.
Throwing in game one for the Curve will be the southpaw Zack Dodson (3-3, 3.10) against Senators righty Colin Bates (2-0, 3.76). Lefty Tom Harlan (4-2, 3.89) gets the ball in game two of the doubleheader Monday night.
