Simply Un-Brach-able! Captains Drop Hawks 11-2

(South Bend)- Brett Brach was fantastic on the mound once again leading Lake County to an impressive 11-2 win over South Bend. Brach (4-6) fired seven strong innings allowing just two runs on five hits and was nearly untouchable as he struck out a season high nine.

The Captains came out firing on all cylinders in the first inning. Delvi Cid began the game off with a first pitch base hit to leftfield. Casey Frawley drove in Cid to make it 1-0 with an RBI double to right. Adam Abraham kept things rolling with a single to left center scoring Frawley. Christ Kersten delivered the Captains fourth straight hit to put runners on the corners. With one out, Roberto Perez hit a chopper over the third baseman Matt Davidson and down the line for a double scoring Abraham. Jason Smit slapped a single to right to drive in Kersten. Hawks' starter Adam Worthington threw a pitch in the dirt to Argenis Martinez that got away from the catcher Errol Hollinger allowing Perez to come in and score giving Lake County a 5-0 lead after one.

The Silver Hawks finally got to Captains' starter Brett Brach in the fourth inning. David Nick singled to leftfield and reached third as Trent Baker miss played the hop. Davidson stepped up and crushed the first pitch fastball deep to left for his 15th homerun of the season cutting the lead to 5-2.

Adam Worthington retired eleven in a row heading into the fifth inning and saw Cid step up and single up the middle. Cid stole second base for his 57th stolen base of the season a league high. Frawley drove in his second run of the game single up the middle to score Cid. Abraham doubled off the left field wall to put runners on second and third. Perez stepped up with a clutch two out base hit to center to drive in two runs increasing the Captains lead to 8-2.

Lake County continued to pile on the runs in the eighth inning. Perez picked up his third hit of the game with a one out double. Smit launched a line drive over the left field wall for a two run homerun his eighth of the season to make it 10-2. Martinez stepped in a ripped a line drive by the second baseman Nick to extend his hit streak to nine straight games. Cid collected a infield single to third putting runners on first and second. Frawley drove in his third RBI of the game with a single to right his third hit of the evening making it 11-2.

The Hawks' Worthington (3-4) suffered the loss giving up eight runs on ten hits in five innings work while striking out five. Jeremy Johnson and Jose Flores each came in and pitched an inning for the Captains pitching perfect frames in the eighth and ninth.

Lake County and South Bend will wrap up their four game series Tuesday night at Coveleski Stadium at 7:00PM. The Captains will send LHP Giovanni Soto (8-6) to the mound against RHP Deogenis Rosario (4-6) for the Silver Hawks.
