Redbirds end slide with big win
Reno, NV - The Redbirds used a big first inning in snapping their three-game losing streak Monday night. Memphis scored four runs in the opening inning en route to a 12-5 win at Aces Ballpark.
Ruben Gotay and Daniel Descalso started the inning with a pair of singles. Nick Stavinoha continued his torrid pace with a two-run double. Stavinoha scored the third run of the inning on a wild pitch and with two outs Bryan Anderson, who had singled earlier, scored on a passed ball. Stavinoha finished the night with two hits and four RBI, giving him 16 RBI in 11 games for Memphis. Bryan Anderson homered with a runner aboard, his 11th of the year. Jim Rapoport added three hits for the 'Birds who totaled 14 on the night.
Lance Lynn (10-8) turned in six solid innings to become the first Redbirds pitcher in three years to win 10 games. Reno managed just one run on five hits against the right-hander. Cesar Valdez (4-8) took the loss after giving up seven runs in five innings.
The win, coupled with Iowa's loss to Portland, pulls the Redbirds within 4.5 games of the division-leading Cubs.
Notes: Kyle Lohse will make his third start for the Redbirds tonight as he continues his comeback from forearm surgery.
