Umpire crew announced for All-Star Game
The Pacific Coast League's Alex Ortiz and Spencer Flynn, and the International League's David Soucy and Ben May have been selected as the umpires for the 28th annual Triple-A All-Star Game, to be held at Werner Park in Omaha, Nebraska on Wednesday, July 15, Triple-A Baseball officials announced today.
Alex Ortiz, a third-year PCL umpire, will be working behind the plate. The Los Angeles native has been an umpire in professional baseball since 2005, having spent time in the Arizona, Pioneer, Midwest, California, Arizona Instructional, Southern, and Texas Leagues. Ortiz gained additional experience umpiring at Major League Spring Training in 2014.
The first base umpire will be David Soucy from the IL. The resident of Bluffton, South Carolina, is in his fourth full year at the Triple-A level. He began his professional umpiring career in 2006 in the Appalachian League, before moving to the Florida Instructional, South Atlantic, Carolina, Arizona Instructional, and Eastern Leagues. Soucy worked Major League Spring Training in 2013 and 2014 and was assigned to the Arizona Fall League during the last off-season.
Spencer Flynn, a resident of Forney, Texas, will man second base. Flynn is currently in his third season in the PCL and tenth overall as a professional umpire. He has served several assignments in his career before joining the PCL including the Arizona, Northwest, South Atlantic, California, Southern, Arizona Instructional, and Dominican Leagues.
Handling the third base duties will be Ben May. The fourth-year IL umpire is in his ninth season of professional baseball, having worked nearly 50 regular season games since making his major league debut on April 17, 2014. The resident of Racine, Wisconsin, has worked in the Gulf Coast, New York-Penn, Midwest, Florida State, Eastern, Puerto Rican, Venezuelan, and Arizona Fall Leagues during his career. May was also an umpire for the World Baseball Classic qualifying rounds in Regensburg, Germany, in 2012.
The First National Bank Triple-A All-Star Game, presented by Gildan, will be broadcast live from Werner Park on Wednesday, July 15 on MLB Network and streamed online at MiLB.TV. The All-Star Game festivities in Omaha get underway Sunday, July 12 with the All-Star Fan Fest & Celebrity Softball Game, presented by ConAgra Foods, followed by the Triple-A Home Run Derby, presented by Omaha Public Power District, on Monday, July 13.
