Neither team scored until two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning Sunday in the Tacoma Rainiers 2-0 win over the El Paso Chihuahuas. Tacoma's Patrick Kivlehan blasted a two-run home run to end the game. Former San Diego Padre Justin Germano pitched a complete game shutout for the Rainiers.
Jason Lane's start was almost as strong, tossing 7.2 shutout innings in a no-decision. The game was completed in 2:01, the shortest game by time in Chihuahuas' history.
The Chihuahuas best chance to score came in the sixth, when Rocky Gale tagged up from third on Mike McCoy's fly ball to left. Kivlehan caught the ball then threw out Gale at the plate to preserve the 0-0 tie.
Gale went 2-for-3 and played second base for the first time in his career. Center fielder Jake Goebbert caught eight fly balls, three shy of the Pacific Coast League record for single-game putouts by an outfielder.
