Owlz Out Slug Raptors

Orem sets opponent high 23 hits
August 12, 2010
The Orem Owlz beat the Ogden Raptors for the third straight game, winning 13-8 Wednesday night at Lindquist Field.

The Owlz took the lead in the third inning. Trailing 4-2, with one out, Drew Beuerlein and Thomas Nichols hit consecutive singles to put runners on first and second. After Hampton Tignor was hit by a pitch to load the bases, a wild pitch moved everyone up 90 feet, scoring Beuerlein. Ryan Broussard scored Nichols with a single to left and put runners on the corners. Andrew Heid then singled home Tignor and moved Broussard to second. Two batters later, with two outs, Wes Hatton hit an infield single to short to load the bases again. Kole Calhoun was walked to force home Broussard, giving the Owlz a 6-4 lead.

The Owlz extended their lead in the fourth. Broussard hit a two-run homer, his first of the season, to put the Owlz up 8-4. Broussard ended the day a triple short of the cycle.

Leading 8-5 in the fifth, Brandon Decker hit a three-run homer to push the Orem lead to 11-5.

The Owlz had 23 hits in the win, the most by a Raptors opponent this season.

Aaron Tullo earned the win out of relief for the Owlz. The right-hander went two innings and gave up one run on one hit and struck out two.

The Raptors will look to avoid a four-game sweep against the Raptors as former Pioneer League Pitcher of the Week Red Patterson faces Kevin Johnson. Game starts at 7:00 and can be heard on 1280 The Zone.
