Report: Jagielo will 'be out for awhile'

Yankees No. 8 prospect to get second MRI following left knee injury
June 30, 2015

Off to the best start of his career, Eric Jagielo has had his season come to a screeching halt.

The Yankees' No. 8 prospect underwent an MRI on his left knee, which showed "loose bodies," The Trentonian reported Tuesday. He'll undergo another MRI and the team will seek a second opinion before exploring the idea of surgery, the newspaper said.

"He's going to be out for a while," Thunder manager Al Pedrique told The Trentonian.

Jagielo injured the knee while sliding into home plate on a sacrifice fly on June 16 against Reading. He immediately left the game and has been on the disabled list since.

The 23-year-old third baseman is hitting .284/.347/.495 with nine homers and 35 RBIs. The average is a personal best for him through the first 58 games of the season.

Jagielo is no stranger to injury after missing almost two months last season due to a strained left oblique muscle. The Notre Dame product returned in July and was headed to the Arizona Fall League but was hit in the face by a pitch in an instructional league game and had to undergo eye surgery.
