Jonathan Schoop Scheduled to Play for Keys

O's Second Baseman to Continue Rehab at Nymeo Field

FREDERICK, Md. -The Frederick Keys are excited to announce that former Key and current Orioles second baseman, Jonathan Schoop, is scheduled to continue his Major League rehab assignment at Nymeo Field on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m and gates open at six when the orange and black take on the Potomac Nationals. Currently on the 60-day disabled list, Schoop has been out since April 18 with a sprained right knee.

In seven rehab games with the Double-A Bowie Baysox, Schoop hit .240 (6-for-25) with three home runs, six RBIs, two doubles and three runs scored. All three home runs by the Curacao native and all six RBIs came over his last four games in Bowie. His last action came on June 26.

Before going on the disabled list, Schoop hit .259 with three homers and seven RBIs with the Orioles in nine games. The 23-year-old was injured on April 17 at Boston's Fenway Park when he landed awkwardly running through first base.

In his first full Major League season with the Baltimore in 2014, Schoop batted .209 with 16 home runs and 45 RBIs in 137 games. Among the American League's best defensive second baseman last season, Schoop posted a .987 fielding percentage and ranked eighth among all MLB second baseman with 89 double plays turned.

A former member of the Keys from 2010-11, Schoop was a part of the 2011 Mills Cup Championship team, while his double play partner was current Orioles third baseman, Manny Machado. In the championship series against the Kinston Indians, Schoop batted .353 (6-for-17) with three RBIs and two runs scored. With the orange and black that season he hit .271 with five home runs and 37 RBIs in 77 games.

The second baseman becomes the fourth Orioles player to suit up for the Keys this season, joining outfielder David Lough, and pitchers Kevin Gausman and Wei-Yin Chen

The Keys begin a three-game series with the Potomac Nationals on Wednesday night at Nymeo Field. Left-hander Chris Lee (2-3, 5.13) gets the start for Frederick and will be opposed by P-Nats righty Lucas Giolito (2-4, 3.55).
