Littrell, Gibson Lead Palm Beach in Win
JUPITER, Fla. - The Palm Beach Cardinals (5-3, 37 - 41) defeated the Fort Myers Miracle, 1 - 0, in game two of the three game series at Roger Dean Stadium. Starting pitcher, Corey Littrell, led Palm Beach to their tenth shutout this season, the second most in the Florida State League. Derek Gibson hit the game winning RBI in the bottom of the fourth with a double down the third base line.
After three scoreless innings, Palm Beach took advantage of a leadoff walk, issued by Fort Myers', Chih-Wei Hu. With Collin Radack on base, he advanced to second on Luke Voit's groundout to the third baseman. David Washington stepped to the plate next, but flew out to left field, not giving Radack time to advance on a tag. With a man in scoring position for the second time in the game, Gibson ripped the ball into left field and Radack scored easily from second base. Gibson's sixth RBI of the season was enough to even the series with Fort Myers.
In his eighth start, Littrell pitched lights out through 6 1/3 innings. After giving up the fourth hit of the game, Littrell was relieved by Josh Lucas, who complete 1 2/3 innings of work. In the top of the ninth, Chris Perry took over on the mound to retire the Miracle in order, finalizing the win for Palm Beach.
Between the three pitchers, no walks were issued to Fort Myers. Littrell recorded three strikeouts and the defense turned two double plays. From the fourth inning to the seventh, Litrell retired nine straight batters. In the 2 2/3 innings of relief, Lucas and Perry faced the minimum, not allowing a single hit.
