Trey Teakell Dominates on Mound as Tigers Win
NORWICH, CT-The Connecticut Tigers (9-8) won their third series in a row with a 7-0 win over the Vermont Lake Monsters (6-11) on Monday night.
Connecticut's starter Trey Teakell (1-0) was spectacular all night long. He worked five innings allowing just two hits while striking out two. Teakell didn't allow a hit over his final three innings of work and retired the last 12 batters he faced. Nate Fury (3 K, 2H) and Jake Shull (2 K, H) each worked two innings to close the game. Tiger's pitchers issued only one walk in the ball game and Vermont didn't move a runner past second base.
The Tiger's started the scoring in the bottom of the first inning against Vermont starter Jon Massad (1-2). Right fielder Victor Padron started the inning with a single and second basemen Brett Pirtle reached on a fielder's choice. After both runners moved to second and third with one out designated hitter Josh Lester drove in the first run with an RBI groundout. Catcher Will Allen (1-4) followed with an RBI double and centerfielder Joey Havrilak (2-3) completed the scoring with an RBI single to make it 3-0.
Connecticut added to their run total in the third when Pirtle (2-4, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R) launched his first homerun of the season making it 5-0. The Tigers added two more runs in the seventh.
Connecticut will be off tomorrow before heading to State College, PA to start a three game series on Wednesday. It will be the start of a three team, seven game road trip. The first pitch on Wednesday is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
