RiverDogs to Hold Special Jersey Auction with Proceeds Benefitting Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center

CHARLESTON, SC - The Charleston RiverDogs will salute those who have served, currently serve and will serve our great country with the second of three ISHPI Military Appreciation Nights on Saturday, July 11, at 6:05 pm against the Kannapolis Intimidators.

The RiverDogs will sport special "Green Army Men" uniforms and will hold a silent auction throughout the game to bid on the jerseys with the proceeds benefitting the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center, which is located a few blocks from Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

"These jerseys are styled unlike anything we've worn before," said General Manager Dave Echols. "We're delighted to support the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center and proud that the proceeds of the silent auction will raise money and awareness for an important group right here in the Lowcountry."

Fans who attend the game will have the opportunity to bid on the special, game-worn jerseys during a silent auction that will be held on the concourse from the time the Riley Park gates open until the top of the sixth inning. The "Green Army Men" jerseys are military green with "RiverDogs" on a nameplate located on the left side of the front and black, military-style numbers with white trim on the back.

Saturday's ISHPI Military Appreciation Night will not only include the special jerseys and auction, but also two more giveaways. A Military Heroes Baseball Card set, featuring actual military members instead of baseball players, will be handed out to the first 1,000 fans through the gates and the first 1,000 kids to enter The Joe will get a special green army man figurine. Both giveaways are presented by WCBD News 2. 

Located in downtown Charleston, the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center provides acute medical, surgical and psychiatric inpatient care, as well as outpatient primary and mental health care to Lowcountry Veterans. The hospital is named to honor Johnson, a Lowcountry native who died in battle in Vietnam and who received the Medal of Honor posthumously.

The RiverDogs return to The Joe and open a nine-game homestand on Saturday, July 4. Charleston will entertain the Rome Braves for a four-game series, before they welcome the Kannapolis Intimidators for a five-game series.
