James Loney's Nine RBIs Ties Dodgers Franchise Mark
DENVER: Rookie James Loney, filling in for the injured Nomar Garciaparra at first base, drove in nine runs through the first six innings of the Dodgers-Rockies game on Thursday, September 28 tying the 56-year-old franchise single-game record held by Gil Hodges.
Loney slugged a second-inning grand slam, doubled in two runs in the third inning, singled in a run in the fifth inning and lined a two-run homer in the sixth.
The Pacific Coast League batting champion this year, Loney came into the game with one home run, eight RBIs and a .258 average in 93 at-bats during three Major League stints. He was also named to the Baseball America 2006 Minor League All-Star Team.
Loney, 22, was a first-round draft pick in 2002.
