Robinson named TL Player of the Week
This is the second time Robinson, the 25-year old resident of Dothan, AL, has won Texas League Player of the Week. He took home the honor for the week of July 5th-11th and also won the Topps' Texas League Player of the Month Award for June.
During the recent six-game stretch that garnered him the award, Robinson batted .500 (8-for-16) with three homers, seven RBI, and an on-base percentage of .650.
Drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 25th round of the 2007 draft, Robinson, a Texas League All-Star, sports a .317 average on the season paired with 24 homers and 81 runs driven in. He's fourth in the league in batting average, first in doubles (35), first in extra-base hits (63), second in runs scored (76), second in slugging percentage (.601), fourth in on-base percentage (.402), second in RBI (81), and tied for the league lead in homers (24). His numbers and consistency no doubt put him at the front of the discussion for the Texas League's Player of the Year Award.
Robinson enters the season's final stretch two homers from tying Kila Ka'aihue's single season franchise mark of 26, set in 2008, and ten RBI from tying Corey Smith's franchise mark of 91 RBI, set last season. The slugger's current tallies are already good for second in both categories.
Right-handed reliever Jeremy Berg from the Arkansas Travelers was named as the league's pitcher of the week.
