Giants Sign First Round Pick Gary Brown

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- The San Francisco Giants have signed their first two selections in the 2010 First-Year Player Draft, the club announced this evening. The Giants inked outfielder, Gary Brown, their first pick and 24th overall selection to a 2011 deal. San Francisco also penned their second pick and the 74th overall selection in the 2010 Draft, Jarrett Parker. The Giants have come to terms with 33 players from this year's draft, including each of their first 14 selections and 18 of their top 20 picks.

Brown, who attended Cal State Fullerton, became the second outfielder that the Giants selected with their first overall selection over the last 17 years (Dante Powell, Cal State Fullerton, 1994). The center fielder from Diamond Bar, California had the eighth highest batting average among all NCAA Division I players with a .438 clip (92-for-210), while his eight triples were tenth most. Overall, the 6-0, 185-pounder had a .485 on-base percentage, .695 slugging percentage, 63 runs scored, 146 total bases and 32 stolen bases. The Golden Spikes semifinalist was named the Big West Player of the Year for the 2010 season.

Jarrett Parker, a 6-4, 210-pound outfielder from the University of Virginia fashioned a .333 batting average (81-for-243) with 56 runs scored, 17 doubles, 10 home runs, and a school-record eight triples in 65 games during his junior season. During conference play, Parker ranked seventh in the ACC with a .371 batting average and received All-ACC honors for the second-straight season.
