Story Paces Isotopes To 6-3 Win At El Paso

July 8, 2015

NEED TO KNOW: Trevor Story picked up three hits, including his second Triple-A home run, as the Albuquerque Isotopes (39-48) opened their five-game series against the El Paso Chihuahuas (43-43) with a 6-4 win Wednesday night at Southwest University Park in El Paso, TX.

THE TURNING POINT: Each team jumped on the board in the first inning. Trevor Story mashed a line drive over the left-center field wall to give Albuquerque a 1-0 lead, but a two-RBI triple by El Paso in the home half of the first gave the Chihuahuas the lead. It wasn't until the fifth inning when back-to-back doubles from Cristhian Adames and Kyle Parker reignited the Isotopes offense. Adames drove in one run, while Parker picked up two RBI on his double. Tim Smalling then singled in Parker to make it 5-2. Albuquerque added another run in the sixth on an Adames single. El Paso scratched out a run in the sixth and ninth innings but could never erase the deficit.

ATTA BOY ADAMES: Infielder Cristhian Adames continued to tear the cover off the baseball Wednesday night, going 2-for-5 with a double, a run scored and two RBI. His double in the fifth inning began Albuquerque's four-run rally that gave the Isotopes the lead for good. During his last 12 games, Adames is now batting .491 (27-for-55) with 10 runs scored, five doubles, two homers and 14 RBI. Adames will represent the Pacific Coast League in the Triple-A All-Star game next Wednesday at Werner Park in Omaha, NE.

SO HERE'S THE STORY: Infielder Trevor Story turned in his best performance since joining the Isotopes last week. He mashed his second-career Triple-A home run, a solo shot in the first inning over the left-center field wall. Story went on to add a single in the fifth and a double in the eighth. He finished the game 3-for-5 with a double, a homer, two runs scored and an RBI. Story now has multi-hit performances in two of his last three outings.

ON DECK: The Isotopes and Chihuahuas will play game two of their five-game series Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. Left-handed pitcher John Lannan (4-3, 3.93 ERA) is scheduled to start for Albuquerque, while El Paso will go with left-hander Jason Lane (7-4, 4.40 ERA).
