July 9, 2015

The Mahoning Valley Scrappers (6-13) and the Vermont Lake Monsters (7-12) took the field at 11:05 for a morning game at Centennial Field in Burlington on Thursday morning, with the Scrappers finishing out front 8-4 in 12 innings.

Mahoning Valley jumped out on top in the top of the second thanks to a two-run home run for David Armendariz. It was his second of the season.

The Scrappers added two more in the fourth thanks to an RBI single for Willi Castro and then the same for Ka'ai Tom. Mahoning Valley led 4-0 through four.

In the bottom of the fourth, Seth Brown hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Steven Pallares.

This is where it got tight.

Billy Strode came in and the Lake Monsters got to him right away. Strode gave up a two-run home run to Chris Iriart, and then Richie Martin grounded out to score Jesus Lopez. After nine, the game was tied, and it went to extra frames.

Vermont had the winning run on third. Lopez popped up a bunt to third with White the winning run on ninth. Fisher caught the popped bunt, and then stepped on the base. White was already running home on the bunt.

Mahoning Valley scored four in the top of the twelfth inning. Li-Jen Chu singled to score Tom and Mark Mathias. Later on, Daniel Salters singled to right to score Chu and Fisher.

Casey Shane did not earn a decision, despite pitching his best game of the season. Shane went five and one-third innings giving up two hits and one run, and struck out five. He did not walk a batter. Yoiber Marquina (1-0) earned the win, and Corey Miller (0-1) earned the loss.

Next game for the Scrappers is on Friday night at 7:05. Jared Robinson gets the ball for the Scrappers.
