Anthony Rizzo Participating in All-Star Festivities
MLB All-Star Weekend's on-field action begins with the Futures Game on Sunday, and the major leaguers will take the stage beginning with the Home Run Derby on Monday and continuing with Tuesday's All-Star Game, all held in Cincinnati. Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo, a Drive alum, will take part in both the Home Run Derby and the All-Star Game.
Rizzo is enjoying an outstanding season with the Chicago Cubs in 2015, which resulted in his second straight selection to the All-Star Game. Through Thursday's action, Rizzo boasts a .296 average with 16 homers, 48 RBI and a .408 on-base percentage.
His first action during the All-Star break will come in Monday's Home Run Derby, where he will face off in a first-round matchup with Josh Donaldson of the Toronto Blue Jays. Rizzo will then participate in Tuesday's All-Star Game, where he was voted as the backup first baseman for the National League by the player's vote.
In parts of two seasons with the Drive in 2008-09, Rizzo rebounded from a bout with cancer and hit .317 with nine homers and 53 RBI in 85 games before making his major league debut with the San Diego Padres in 2011.
