Ellis, Snodgress & Wood blank 'Hounds

Kyle McGowin & Chris Ellis have combined to toss 13.2 innings, allowing a run on four hits in two starts this series for the Travs.

North Little Rock, AR - The Arkansas Travelers tossed their Texas League-leading 10th shutout on Thursday, winning 4-0 over the Midland RockHounds at Dickey-Stephens Park.

RHP Chris Ellis (4-0) improved to 4-0 with Arkansas in six starts after throwing six three-hit innings. Ellis walked three and struck out four.

LHP Scott Snodgress worked a scoreless seventh and RHP Austin Wood pitched two perfect innings to finish the game.

Arkansas scored all four of its runs in the fourth with the big blow coming from 2B Sherman Johnson who finished 3-for-4. With 1B Michael Snyder on third with two outs in the fourth, LF D'Arby Myers grounded a worm-burner to short, but beat out the throw by shortstop Chad Pinder to put the Travs up 1-0. After SS Eric Stamets and C Stephen McGee singled to load the bases, Johnson ripped a bases loaded bases-clearing double to right-center to give Arkansas the 4-0 lead. The double was Johnson's second of the game and 22nd of the season.

Johnson finished 3-for-4 with the two doubles and four RBIs, his third three-hit game this season.

The single for McGee was his first in Double-A.

Stamets finished 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.

Midland finished 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position.

The RockHounds had a runner on base in each of the first eight frames, but never more than one in any innings.

Five of the first eight Midland leadoff men reached base.

With the win, Arkansas improved to 43-40 on the season and 7-7 in the second half. The Travelers and RockHounds will conclude the three-game series on Friday night with first pitch scheduled for 7:10 p.m. at Dickey-Stephens Park.
