Ravin Named CL Pitcher of the Week

August 18, 2010
Hillcats starting pitcher Josh Ravin was named Carolina League Pitcher of the Week for the week of August 9-15. Ravin made his first start for Lynchburg August 13, where he threw six shutout innings and allowed only one hit. He walked one and struck out six in Lynchburg's 6-1 win against Kinston.

Ravin was activated off the disabled list August 12, and promoted from Low-A Dayton to Lynchburg the same day. He was placed on the disabled list June 19 after a right hip strain. He made two rehab appearances with the Reds' Arizona League affiliate where he made two starts. He went 1-0, with a 3.38 ERA. He allowed three earned runs and struck out seven in Goodyear.

He was the opening-day starter for Dayton. With the Dragons, he went 2-6 with a 4.79 ERA in 12 games before going on the disabled list. In 56.1 innings pitched, he walked 28 and struck out 43.

Ravin is the second Hillcats pitcher to win Carolina League Pitcher of the Week this season, and the third player overall to be honored with a player of the week award. Devin Mesoraco won Carolina League Player of the Week from May 10-16. James Avery won Pitcher of the Week for the week of July 12-18. Ravin is slated to throw again Wednesday August 18 against Myrtle Beach.
