Missions honored Armed Services, Lose to Travs 3-2

August 19, 2010
It was armed services night at the ballpark Wednesday for Armed Services Night presented by USO Banking from Bank of America and Dr. Pepper. However, the Missions couldn't over take the Travs as they fell 3-2 at Wolff Stadium.

Missions starter Nathan Culp didn't have his best stuff, but gave more than enough to give the Missions a chance to win the game. Culp went seven innings allowing two runs on seven hits, while walking two and striking out a pair. Culp, on more than one occasion, had multiple runners on base with less than two outs and worked out of the situation with allowing a run. The biggest such play was in the 6th inning, when with runners on second and third, Culp got Travs 1B Efren Navarro to hit a fly ball to right center field to Missions RF Sawyer Carroll. Travs LF Jeremy Moore tried to test Carroll's arm and break the 2-2 tie, but the Missions RF gunned him out at the plate to end the inning. Carroll was recently named by Baseball America as having the best Outfield Arm in the Texas League.

However the gritty performance by Culp was all for naught as the Missions offense never could get rolling. The Missions were led by SS Lance Zawadski's 2-4 night, as the Missions could only muster six hits.

It was a missed opportunity by the Missions to pick up a game on the division leading Midland RockHounds as they fell to Tulsa 10-4. The Missions are currently three games behind Hounds with 19 to play.

The Missions and the Travs play the second game of the three game set tonight at 7:05 pm at the Wolff with gates opening at 6:00 pm. It is Time Warner Cable Dollar Night presented by Ballpark Franks. Dollar Hot Dogs, Dollar Popcorn, Dollar Soda, and Dollar Beer!! Bring your Time Warner Cable bill to the Missions box office and receive $2 off any ticket.
