Flashback: August-September in NY-Penn League
Aug. 1 -- James Negrych went 4-for-4 with a walk and three RBIs to lift Williamsport over Jamestown, 9-5. The 21-year-old second baseman ripped an RBI single in the Crosscutters' three-run first inning and blasted a solo homer in the third.

Aug. 2 -- David Mense raised his average 21 points after pounding out a season-high four hits as Jamestown rallied for a 5-3 victory over Williamsport. The 21-year-old right fielder singled three times and doubled, raising his average from .281 to .302.
Aug. 3 -- Nathan Southard hit an electrifying inside-the-park home run in the bottom of the 11th inning to give State College a 3-2 victory over Williamsport. With two outs, the 22-year-old left fielder raced around the bases after center fielder James Barksdale failed to make a diving catch.

Aug. 4 -- Kyle Pearson tossed a two-hitter for his first professional shutout as Williamsport blanked State College, 3-0, in the second game of a doubleheader. After losing two straight starts, the 21-year-old right-hander yielded just two singles with three walks and a career-high 12 strikeouts.

Aug. 5 -- Brooklyn's 12-game winning streak came to an end as David Qualben and Victor Garate limited the Cyclones to three hits in Tri-City's 1-0 triumph. Qualben gave up two hits, walked one and struck out four over seven innings. Garate yielded one hit and fanned three over the final two frames.
Aug. 6 -- Batavia's Alexander Concepcion went the distance in an 8-0 triumph over Jamestown. The 21-year-old right-hander allowed five hits and struck out five to earn his first victory in five starts. Jacob Dempsey and Jay Miller each scored twice for Batavia, which broke it open with a five-run fourth inning.
Aug. 7 -- Jake Ruckle pitched eight stellar innings and Dustin Martin went 3-for-4 to spark Brooklyn to a 3-0 win over Staten Island. Ruckle permitted four hits and struck out a season-high 10 batters en route to his fourth straight victory.
Aug. 8 -- Jose Munoz broke a scoreless tie in the eighth inning as Jamestown edged Batavia, 1-0. Munoz lined a double to center field to plate Dustin Kaats, who reached on a throwing error by shortstop Jason Donald. Muckdogs starter Ben Pfinsgraff went the distance for the first time this season.
Aug. 9 -- Staten Island topped Tri-City, 8-1, behind the arm of Edgar Soto and the bat of Seth Fortenberry. Soto surrendered three hits and struck out four over a season-high seven scoreless innings. Fortenberry hit a two-run double in the fifth and an RBI triple in the ninth.
Aug. 9 -- Batavia got another strong start from Andrew Cruse, but Auburn rallied for a 2-1 victory over the Muckdogs. Cruse went 6 2/3 innings, allowing one run on three hits and a walk with eight strikeouts. Reliever Seth Overbey got the win after giving up two walks in three hitless innings.
Aug. 10 -- George Kontos recorded a season-high nine strikeouts over six innings as Staten Island pounded Tri-City, 10-2. Francisco Cervelli's three-run double highlighted the Yankees' six-run sixth.

Aug. 11 -- Tobi Stoner pitched seven strong innings as Brooklyn blanked Lowell, 5-0. He allowed two hits and struck out six without issuing a walk as he lowered his ERA to 2.44.
Aug. 12 -- Kyle Sadlowski and Luke Gregerson limited Vermont to six hits as State College posted a 1-0 victory. Sadlowski pitched eight innings, allowing six singles and striking out two for his first win of the season. Gregerson walked one and struck out the side in the ninth for his first save.
Aug. 13 -- Jeff Farrell and Yulkin German combined on the first no-hitter in Spinners history as Lowell blanked Hudson Valley, 2-0. Farrell hit Ryan Royster with a pitch in the third inning and left after walking Matt Spring to start the sixth. German hit one batter and fanned four over the final four frames.

Aug. 13 -- Todd Davison smacked a run-scoring triple in the top of the 15th inning as Aberdeen edged Williamsport, 2-1. Matthew Pulley had two hits to lead the IronBirds. Alexander Peralta had four of the 16 hits for the Crosscutters, who left 14 runners on base and committed three errors.
Aug. 14 -- Erik Arnesen pitched six innings for his first win of the season as Vermont blanked State College, 6-0. The 6-foot-3, 260-pound right-hander gave up five hits, walked two and struck out three. Justin Maxwell had three hits, two RBIs and a run scored for the Lake Monsters.
Aug. 16 -- The American League All-Stars took advantage of some shaky defense by their National League counterparts to notch a 4-1 victory in the New York-Penn League All-Star Game. Staten Island's Mitchell Hilligoss drove in the game's first run with a blooper to left in the first inning and was named Player of the Game. Brooklyn's Dustin Martin and Jamestown's Jacob Blackwood each had two hits for the NL, which committed four errors.

Hudson Valley's Ryan Royster turns in a gem
Aug. 17 -- Mike Felix, Sergio Silva and Steven MacFarland combined on a two-hitter as Williamsport shut down Vermont, 6-1. Felix surrendered an unearned run with four strikeouts and four walks over four hitless innings. Silva allowed one hit, walked one and fanned six in three scoreless frames for the win.
Aug 18 -- Colin Curtis singled home Seth Fortenberry in the bottom of the 10th inning, giving Staten Island a 1-0 win over Mahoning Valley. Yankees starter James Conroy yielded four hits, walked one and struck out five over six scoreless innings.
Aug. 19 -- Tanner Rogers had four hits and five RBIs and Logan Morrison slugged a first-inning grand slam as Jamestown outlasted Lowell, 11-8. Rogers, a 21-year-old catcher, went 13-for-33 with eight RBIs during a 10-game stretch. John Raynor had three of Jamestown's 12 hits.
Aug. 19 -- Williamsport scored all its runs in the ninth inning in a 4-1 triumph over Vermont. Alexander Presley went 3-for-4 with an RBI triple that snapped a 1-1 tie. After Kyle Pearson pitched seven strong innings, Dustin Molleken sat down six straight batters to nab the win.
Aug. 20 -- Alexander Presley collected three hits and an RBI as Williamsport edged Jamestown, 2-1. Henry Cabrera, Steven MacFarland and Sergio Silva held the Jammers to four hits. MacFarland picked up the win after walking three and striking out two in 2 1/3 hitless innings.

Aug. 21 -- Wilkins De La Rosa, Wilmer Pino and Francisco Cervelli combined for 12 hits, eight RBIs and 10 runs scored as Staten Island pounded out 23 hits in a 21-6 thrashing of Brooklyn. After building a 9-6 lead though three innings, the Yankees scored 12 unanswered runs.
Aug. 22 -- Hudson Valley, which had lost 10 of its previous 11 games, received a much-needed dominating performance from its pitchers as Matthew Falk and two relievers combined on a two-hitter in a 6-0 win over Brooklyn. Matthew Fields and Matt Spring hit solo homers.
Aug. 22 -- One night after being shut out by Batavia, Mahoning Valley set season highs in runs, hits and hit batters in a 13-3 romp over Jamestown. Dustin Realini was 3-for-5 with six RBIs, while Matthew McBride went 4-for-4 to pace the Scrappers.
Aug. 23 -- Danny Figueroa hit for the cycle and drove in a season-high six runs as Aberdeen rolled to a 17-6 victory over Staten Island. The 23-year-old outfielder belted a grand slam in an eight-run second inning, doubled in the fourth, reached on an infield hit in the sixth and slapped a two-run triple in the seventh.
Aug. 24 -- Mahoning Valley was one out away from completing the 17th no-hitter in the Minor Leagues this season before pinch-hitter Logan Morrison reached on an infield single during the Scrappers' 5-0 triumph over the Jamestown. William Delage struck out seven over seven hitless innings.
Aug. 24 -- Michael Chambers went 4-for-5 with a grand slam and a career-high seven RBIs as Lowell defeated Tri-City, 8-2. The 22-year-old second baseman broke out of a 2-for-29 slump with a two-run single in the fourth, an RBI single in sixth and a grand slam in the seventh.

Aug. 25 -- Chris Salamida won his ninth consecutive decision as Tri-City blanked Lowell, 7-0. The 22-year-old left-hander improved to 9-1 after scattering four hits over six innings. He lowered his league-leading ERA to 0.74. Max Sapp went 3-for-5 with three RBIs.
Aug. 26 -- Bud Norris set a club record with 13 strikeouts over five innings as Tri-City edged Vermont, 5-3. The 21-year-old right-hander allowed one run on two hits and a walk to earn his first win in three starts. Greg Buchanan went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer and two runs scored for the ValleyCats.

Aug. 27 -- Nicolas Suero pitched six strong innings as Williamsport beat Batavia, 5-1, to earn a split of their doubleheader. He fanned four without walking a batter and lowered his ERA to 2.95. The 21-year-old right-hander was making his first start after 11 relief appearances for the Crosscutters.
Aug. 28 -- Patrick Bresnahan and Olivo Astacio combined on a four-hitter as Williamsport shut down Batavia, 10-0. Bresnahan allowed three hits with eight strikeouts over six innings and Astacio yielded a hit and fanned six in three frames. Alexander Presley and Miles Durham both homered and drove in two runs for the Crosscutters.
Aug. 29 -- Nathan Southard delivered an RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to give State College a 4-3 win over Mahoning Valley. Southard went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and Jared Schweitzer had two hits, including a run-scoring single in the sixth that forged a 3-3 tie.

Aug. 30 -- Jordan Parraz slugged a three-run, walk-off homer with one out in the ninth inning as Tri-City rallied for a 5-3 triumph over Brooklyn. Parraz had two of the seven hits for the ValleyCats, who overcame a 3-0 deficit.

Aug. 31 -- Matthew Liuzza went 2-for-3 with an RBI double in the seventh inning as the Auburn squeaked past Jamestown, 1-0. Ronald Lowe and Shane Benson pitched the last three innings, walking two and striking out four.
Sept. 1 -- Mahoning Valley used a six-run third inning to edge Williamsport, 6-5. Jason Denham's RBI double got things started for the Scrappers and Dustin Realini added a two-run single before Joshua Rodriguez belted a two-run homer.
Sept. 2 -- Matthew Falk earned his first win in five starts in Hudson Valley's 2-0 victory over Tri-City. He yielded two hits and two walks while striking out five over seven solid innings for the win. Neal Frontz gave up a hit and fanned three over the final two frames for his fifth save.

Sept. 3 -- Wilfreddy Aguirre retired the first 15 batters en route to his first career complete game as Auburn edged visiting Williamsport, 1-0. The 19-year-old left-hander allowed four hits and fanned eight to lead the Doubledays to their seventh straight win. Matthew Liuzza homered in the sixth for the game's lone run.

Sept. 4 -- Tri-City snapped a four-game losing streak and clinched the Stedler Division title with a 12-2 pasting of Hudson Valley. ValleyCats starter Chris Salamida won his 10th straight decision after allowing two runs on three hits over five frames. Jordan Parraz drove in three runs and scored three times.
Sept. 5 -- Reid Engel went 3-for-4 to pace a 12-hit assault as Lowell doubled up Aberdeen, 14-7. He homered and drove in three runs, while Paul Smyth and Luis Segovia also went deep for the Spinners.

Sept. 6 -- Henry Cabrera and Olivo Astacio teamed up for the second no-hitter in team history as Willliamsport edged Batavia, 1-0. Cabrera fanned a season-high eight in six innings and Astacio struck out six over the final three frames. James Barksdale singled in Smelin Perez in the sixth with the game's lone run.
Sept. 7 -- Brooklyn secured the New York-Penn League Wild Card as Emmanuel Garcia scampered home on an error in the 12th inning for a 4-3 victory over Vermont. Dustin Martin went 5-for-6 for the Cyclones, who won four of their final five games. Jesus Gamero's RBI single highlighted Brooklyn's three-run seventh.

Sept. 9 -- Chris Salamida hurled six scoreless innings to lead Tri-City to a 1-0 win over Auburn in the opener of their playoff series. Salamida yielded two hits, struck out five and retired 12 of the final 13 batters he faced.

Sept. 9 -- Wilmer Pino homered and drove in three runs to power Staten Island past Brooklyn, 5-2, in the opener of their best-of-3 playoff series. He slugged a two-run shot in the sixth inning and broke a 2-2 tie with an RBI double in the seventh.
Sept. 10 -- Max Sapp's run-scoring single in the bottom of the ninth inning gave Tri-City a 4-3 triumph over Auburn and a sweep of their first-round playoff series. Tim Torres was 3-for-4 with an RBI single in the first for the ValleyCats.

Sept. 10 -- Tim Norton took a no-hitter into the seventh inning as Staten Island shut out Brooklyn, 9-0, to return to the New York-Penn League Championship Series. Norton gave up one hit while striking out four and walking three over seven frames.
Sept. 12 -- Staten Island defeated Tri-City, 4-2, in Game 1 of the New York-Penn League Finals. Kyle Larsen scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch in a three-run third inning. He went 2-for-3 with a walk to raise his playoff batting average to .500.

Sept. 13 -- James Van Ostrand hit a grand slam as Tri-City evened the New York-Penn League Finals with a 9-2 win over Staten Island. The 22-year-old center fielder slapped an RBI single during a three-run first inning and homered in the seventh.

Sept. 15 -- Staten Island blanked the ValleyCats, 2-0, to win its second straight New York-Penn League title. George Kontos allowed five hits and fanned a career-high 11 over six scoreless innings to outduel Chris Salamida.
