Whitecaps add four from 2015 draft class
Four members of the Tigers 2015 draft class, all of whom were selected in the first 10 Rounds of the MLB Draft, join the club. Pitchers Dominic Moreno (8th Round) and Trey Teakell (9th Round), catcher Kade Scivicque (4th Round) & outfielder Christin Stewart (1st Round - 34th Overall) join the Whitecaps by way of the Connecticut Tigers. In a set of corresponding roster moves, the team assigned pitchers Matt Davenport and Josh Heddinger, as well as catchers Franklin Navarro and Shane Zeile to the Connecticut Tigers roster.
Moreno has pitched well through six appearances between the Connecticut and GCL Tigers, posting a 1-0 record with a 1.42 ERA. In 12.2 innings prior to becoming a Whitecap, Moreno held opponents to a .208 BAA, while walking three and striking out 14. Teakell has excelled through three starts with the Connecticut Tigers, posting a 1-0 record with a 1.50 ERA. In 12 innings prior to becoming a Whitecap, Teakell allowed just six base hits without walking a batter and striking out six, posting an impressive WHIP of 0.50.
Stewart, an outfielder from the University of Tennessee, became one of two first-round picks (34th Overall) by the Tigers in June. The left-handed slugger played in 20 games between the GCL and Connecticut Tigers, hitting .282 with three home runs and 13 RBI in 20 games. Stewart's junior season earned him First-Team All-SEC honors in May, hitting .311-15-47 in 50 games this year. Scivicque, a fourth-round pick by the Tigers, only played 9 games with Connecticut Tigers, but hit .406 with three doubles. The catcher served as the LSU Tigers' cleanup hitter, hitting .355 with six home runs and 48 RBI in 60 games, helping his team reach the College World Series this season.
