16 Home Games Slated for June 2011 in New Ballpark

August 21, 2010

OMAHA, NE - The Omaha Royals today released their 2011 home schedule. The biggest difference fans will notice compared to past seasons is that the Triple-A team will no longer have to play on the road for most of the month of June. Since the Royals will no longer share a stadium with the College World Series, the team will actually host more games at their new Sarpy County ballpark next June than they will play on the road.

The Royals will play 16 home games next June, compared to 12 contests on the road. In June 2010, the Royals were able to host only eight games at Rosenblatt Stadium, while playing 20 tilts away from Omaha. Even with more June home games in 2011, only two Royals home dates - June 27-28 - will also be dates for CWS contests. The 2011 College World Series is scheduled for June 17-28 or 29.

"We are extremely happy with the 2011 schedule devised by the Pacific Coast League," said Martie Cordaro, Royals Vice President/General Manager. "It's going to be such a refreshing change for our fans, as well as the professional ballplayers assigned to us by the Kansas City Royals, to have a balanced schedule with a lot of baseball games at home in June - a prime month for fans to enjoy America's pastime."

The team's full 2011 schedule, complete with road games and first pitch times for all 144 contests, will be released in the coming months. The Royals are tentatively scheduled to open their 2011 season with an eight-game road trip April 7-14. The club's new ballpark will be christened on Friday, April 15 with the Nashville Sounds as the first visiting team.

The final 2010 home stand at Rosenblatt - 13 games including nine meetings with the Memphis Redbirds and Iowa Cubs, locked in a three-way battle for a spot in the PCL playoffs - opens this Saturday at 7:05 p.m. vs. Memphis, Triple-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals.
