Six ex-Lynx players still in World Series hunt
Considering the Detroit Tigers and St. Louis Cardinals are both Lynx-free, Ottawa baseball fans might throw their support behind the New York Mets and Oakland Athletics. Here's a team-by-team breakdown of former Lynx and how they fared in the Division Series.
New York Mets
New York is laden with Lynx alumni. RHP John Maine was the Mets' Game 1 starter in their Division Series win over Los Angeles. He didn't pick up the win, but allowed only one run over 4 1/3 innings of work. OF Cliff Floyd hit .444 with a home run, two runs batted in and three runs scored, but his status is unknown after injuring his Achilles in the Dodgers series. OF Endy Chavez was a sparkplug for the Mets, going 3-for-8 with a run scored. He stands to see more playing time if Floyd is out. RHP Guillermo Mota appeared in two of three games, giving up three runs over four innings.
St. Louis Cardinals
No former Lynx players on the roster; will face the Mets for the National League pennant.
Los Angeles Dodgers
No former Lynx players on the roster; eliminated from the 2006 MLB playoffs.
San Diego Padres
IF Geoff Blum was the only former Lynx to see the field against St. Louis. Blum went 1-for-8 with an RBI and four walks over four games. OF Jack Cust and OF Terrmel Sledge did not play in the Division Series.
Oakland Athletics
OF Milton Bradley was the only Lynx grad to play for the A's in the Division Series against Minnesota. He struggled, getting only one hit in 13 at-bats. But he made that one hit count, slamming a two-run home run in Game 3 of the series against Minnesota. OF Hiram Bocachica is also with the Athletics, but did not play in the Division Series.
Detroit Tigers
No former Lynx players on the roster; will face the Athletics for the American League pennant.
Minnesota Twins
OF/DH Rondell White represented the Lynx well, tying for the team lead with five hits, including a home run, as the Twins fell to Oakland in the Division Series.
New York Yankees
C Sal Fasano did not play for the Yankees as they lost to Detroit in the Division Series.
