Knights Continue Dominance over Braves
Charlotte Wins 8-6; Knights 12-3 vs. Gwinnett this season
FORT MILL, S.C. - For the third straight game the Charlotte Knights were victorious over the Gwinnett Braves as they won 8-6 at Knights Stadium. The Knights have won seven straight over Gwinnett and are now 12-3 vs. the Braves this season.
It was an ugly game throughout as the two teams combined to walk 15 hitters. Both starting pitchers struggled as Knights starter Freddy Dolsi allowed five runs in 3.0 innings while Gwinnett's Jose Ortegano gave up six runs in 3.2 innings of work.
Charlotte third baseman Dayan Viciedo put the Knights on the board in the first inning with a two run home run. The Knights added three more runs in the 2nd inning thanks to an RBI triple from Brent Morel that scored Jeremy Reed. Morel then scored on an infield single from Fernando Cortez.
Knights reliever Miguel Socolovich pitched 4.0 scoreless innings of relief to earn the win and has now pitched 10.1 consecutive scoreless innings. Randy Williams struck out two in the ninth inning and didn't allow a run to earn his second save of the season.
The Knights and Braves finish up their series tomorrow at 2:15 PM. The Braves will start RHP Kenshin Kawakami (0-1, 2.79 ERA) and the Knights will counter with RHP Jeff Marquez (8-7, 4.19 ERA).
