Robbins rocks as Intimidators squash bugs

Right fielder enjoys fifth career 4-hit game to lead Kannapolis to win

GREENSBORO, N.C. (July 22, 2015) - Mason Robbins' four-hit game powered the Intimidators past the Grasshoppers, 6-2, on Wednesday at NewBridge Bank Park in Greensboro. Robbins finished the game 4-5 with three RBI and two runs scored, recording his third four-hit game this season and fifth of his career.

Kannapolis (14-12 Second Half, 49-46) scored five of its six runs with two outs. Kelvis Valerio (1-0) earned the win, working 3.0 relief innings and allowing a run on three hits with two strikeouts. Matt Cooper spun a perfect ninth to slam the door on the Grasshoppers.  

Greensboro broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third when John Norwood led off with a home run (12) for a 1-0 lead.  

Kannapolis even the game in the top of the sixth when Robbins blasted a one-out triple to dead center field, and Alexander Simon later added a sac-fly to cash Robbins to tie the game, 1-1.  

In the bottom of the sixth, the Hoppers used back-to-back doubles by KJ Woods and Korey Dunbar to pull back in front, 2-1, to open the inning. Robbins added more timely hitting in the seventh, connecting on a bases-loaded two-out single to drive in John Ziznewski and Ethan Gross for a 3-2 lead.

The Intimidators added three runs in the top of the ninth thanks to a Robbins RBI-single and a two-run double by Louie Lechich, giving the center fielder a team-high 50 RBI on the season.

Kannapolis starting pitcher Luis Martinez took no decision, working 5.0 innings and allowing a run on four hits with five strikeouts and two walks.  

Ryan Hafner (0-1) took the loss for Greensboro. 

The Intimidators continue this three-game series on Thursday at 7 p.m. as RHP Yency Almonte (7-4, 4.02 ERA) takes the mound for Kannapolis against Greensboro's LHP Ben Holmes (3-6, 5.21 ERA).
