Hall of Fame Running Back Tony Dorsett visiting PNG Field August 30th
CURVE, Pa. - NFL Hall of Fame running back Tony Dorsett is making a run through Curve, Pa Thursday August 30th. The former Pitt Panther is part of the Curve's regional icon series and will be throwing out a first pitch and signing autographs.
Dorsett grew up in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, and attended Hopewell High School near Pittsburgh, where he played football and basketball. After graduating from Hopewell in 1973, he enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh, his hometown team. He became one of the most decorated running backs in NCAA history. Dorsett was a three-time first-team All-American, and in 1976 he claimed the Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Award, and Walter Camp Trophy in leading Pitt to the National Championship.
After his storied career as a Panther ended, he was selected in the first round (second overall) in the 1977 NFL draft by the Dallas Cowboys. In his time with the Cowboys, Dorsett became a four-time Pro Bowl selection ('78, '81, '82 and '83), and the eighth-leading rusher all-time, 1977 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, and Super Bowl Champion. He was elected to both the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the College Football Hall of Fame in 1994.
