Tellez Goes Deep But Jays Fall 6-3 in Bradenton
Bradenton, FL - For a second consecutive night at McKechnie Field, the Bradenton Marauders rallied late and knocked off the Dunedin Blue Jays, 6-3.
With the game tied 2-2 headed into the bottom of the seventh inning, Harold Ramirez connected for a two-out two-run homer off Jays reliever Alberto Tirado to put the Marauders ahead for good. They added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth.
Bradenton jumped ahead with two in the third inning off Dunedin starter Jairo Labourt, but that's all the Marauders would score off the lefty. Labourt lasted five innings and struck out seven.
The D-Jays tied the game in the sixth when Rowdy Tellez launched a two-run shot to right, scoring Richard Urena who had singled in front of him. It was the seventh home run for Tellez since joining the D-Jays. He now has 23 RBI in 26 games.
Dunedin put up a single tally in the ninth, but the rally fell short. Mitch Nay tripled off the wall in right-center with one out and L.B. Dantzler brought him home with an RBI ground out.
Tirado (4-2) took the loss for the D-Jays, while Bradenton starter Frank Duncan (7-5) picked up the win. Duncan tossed seven innings and the only runs he surrendered came on the one swing by Tellez. Montana DeRapau earned his third save in as many opportunities by recording the final six outs of the contest.
The D-Jays play the third of a four-game series with Bradenton tomorrow night. Murphy Smith will take the hill for Dunedin. First pitch is set for 6:30 ET and the action can be heard on DunedinBlueJays.com.
