Summary
Altoona's Stetson Allie slugged his league-leading 16th homer of the season, and starter Steven Brault allowed just one run over five innings as the Curve defeated the Akron RubberDucks, 4-1, Thursday night at Canal Park.
Turning Point
The Curve (54-45) got off to a scoring start in the first inning when Dan Gamache bounced an RBI infield single to short against Akron starter Charlie Brewer (1-1). Allie launched a long homer to left in the 2nd to make it 2-0. The visitors added single runs in the third and fourth as well, building a 4-0 advantage.
Mound Presence
Brewer allowed four runs on nine in 3 1/3 innings and absorbed his first loss of the season. The RubberDucks bullpen was nearly flawless as Joe Colon, Enosil Tejeda, Casey Weathers, and Jeff Johnson combined for 5 2/3 innings of shutout relief. For Altoona, Brault (3-3) scattered five hits and allowed just one run in his five innings to earn his third win of the season. Jhondaniel Medina closed out the Ducks in the ninth for his third save.
Duck Tales
Joe Sever lined an RBI single up the middle with two outs in the fourth to get Akron on the board. Yandy Diaz was 2-3, with a triple and also drew his league-high 60th walk. Nick Swisher made a minor league rehab start for Akron and played the first six innings in right field. He was 0-2, with a walk. Todd Hankins was 2-5, with a pair of singles.
