Richard optioned to Iowa, Dent reassigned

July 25, 2015

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Chicago Cubs have made a series of transactions affecting Iowa's active roster for tonight's game at Memphis. Left-handed pitcher Clayton Richard has been optioned to Iowa, and infielder Ryan Dent has been activated from the disabled list and reassigned to Double-A Tennessee.

Richard, 31, is 1-0 with a 5.40 ERA (9 ER/15.0 IP) in three appearances (two starts) with Chicago this season. He was acquired from the Pirates on July 3 for a cash consideration. He was optioned July 22 and will be added to Iowa's active roster tonight.

The left-hander went 4-2 with a 2.09 ERA (13ER/56.0IP) in nine starts with Triple-A Indianapolis prior to the trade, a stint which included a 26.2-inning scoreless streak from May 24 to June 13.

Dent, 26, batted .268 (11-for-41) with one home run and six RBI in 18 games for Iowa after being promoted from Tennessee June 8. He was placed on the disabled list July 7 with a sore hamstring.

With these moves, Iowa's roster is full at 25 players plus two players on the disabled list and one player on major league rehab assignment.
