Rainiers Walk Off Fresno, 8-7
TACOMA, Wash. -- The Tacoma Rainiers posted a pair of rallies on the way to securing an 8-7 walk-off win over the Fresno Grizzlies at Cheney Stadium on Saturday night.
Trailing 5-2, the Rainiers pieced together a five-hit, five-run effort to pull ahead by a pair of runs. Leury Bonilla brought Tacoma within two after hitting a bases-loaded single, and then Ketel Marte tied the game with two-run single to left field one at-bat later. Jesus Montero capped off the frame with a two-out, two-run double that put Tacoma up 7-5.
After Fresno locked the game at 7-7 in the top of the ninth, outfielder Jabari Blash positioned the Rainiers on top for good with a walk-off solo home run that started the bottom of the inning.
Montero accounted for three of Tacoma's 13 hits in the contest after going 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and four RBI. He guided the Rainiers to an early 1-0 lead after slicing an RBI double with one out in the first inning. The first baseman also hit an RBI single in the seventh.
Montero entered Saturday's contest ranked second in the Pacific Coast League with a .331 batting average. The 2015 PCL All-Star selection now leads the league with a total of 121 hits through his first 89 games played with Tacoma this season.
Reliever Logan Bawcom (2-1) earned the victory after securing the final out for the Rainiers in the top of the ninth. Starter Forrest Snow allowed three runs on five hits through 5.0 innings of work. The right-hander fanned three and walked two in his 15th start with Tacoma this season.
