Longhorns headed to Dell Diamond

Round Rock to host Texas' Fall World Series from Oct. 26-27
October 20, 2006
One month after playing host to its first Triple-A Championship Series, The Dell Diamond will welcome the University of Texas baseball team from Oct. 26-27 for the Longhorns' annual Fall World Series.

The two-day scrimmage event is free of charge and will be the public's first chance to catch a glimpse at the 2007 Longhorns. Official practices have been closed to the public due to ongoing construction on Disch-Falk Field.

"This is another great opportunity for baseball fans to see one of the premier baseball teams in the country," Round Rock Express President Jay Miller said of the games, which both begin at 6 p.m. "The Express has had six winning seasons in seven years at The Dell Diamond, and now we get the chance to welcome one of college baseball's best programs. It's a treat for us, our fans and Longhorn fans alike."

The 2006 Longhorns finished 41-21 and were ranked No. 12 in the final USA Today/ESPN Coaches' Poll. Official fall practice runs from Oct. 12-27 for Texas, concluding with the Fall World Series where the potential 2007 roster is divided in half and the teams compete in an orange-white scrimmage.

"As a former Longhorn player, the Fall World Series was always an exciting time of year," said Reid Ryan, founder and C.E.O. of the Round Rock Express, which won the 2006 Pacific Coast League American Conference.

"It's a chance for new players to step up and show the coaches and fans that they are ready to play at the college level. I'm excited to host these games at The Dell Diamond and to get a sneak peek at the 2007 Longhorn squad. You never know, one of these guys might even play for the Express one day in the future."

This year's Fall World Series was shifted from Austin to Round Rock due to the commencement of renovations of Disch-Falk Field. For more information on the Fall World Series and the University of Texas baseball team, click here.
