Bandits Blow by Snappers

July 29, 2015

BELOIT, Wisc. - The Quad City River Bandits routed the Snappers Tuesday night, scoring seven more runs with a final score of 11-4. The Bandits were able to capitalize on their runners on base much better than the Snappers, who matched the Bandits in hits.

Junior Mendez was on the mound for the Snappers and looked to be off to a solid start for the first two innings but ended up leaving just shy of five innings, allowing six runs on six hits, all earned. He walked two and struck out one batter. Kevin Johnson came on in relief, allowing two more runs with Sosa coming in later to tack on three more. Michael Fagan closed out the game and was the only Snapper to not allow a run Tuesday night.

Christian Powell pitched well for the Bandits, allowing three runs on five hits, two of which were earned through six innings. He walked two batters and struck out four. Michael Freeman came on for two innings of relief without allowing a run.

The Snappers started the scoring with Sandber Pimentel driving in Jose Brizuela on a single after Brizuela doubled to right field. The Bandits plated two runners in the third. Garrett Stubbs singled and advanced to second after a throwing error by Mikey White. Kristian Trompiz then doubled to knock in Stubbs. Jason Martin later hit a single to score Trompiz after he advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Bobby Boyd.

Pimentel walked in the fourth and advanced to third after a single by Max Kuhn. Iolana Akau then hit a sac fly to center field that scored Pimentel.

The Bandits had an eventful fifth inning. They started the scoring with a sac fly and then an RBI single. Junior Mendez was taken out of the game with two outs in the fifth, being replaced by Kevin Johnson. He took over with two runners on and then walked his first batter to load the bases. Ramon Laureano, doubled to clear the bases and it just got worse for the Snappers after that. Bobby Boyd homered to the very corner of right field to put the Bandits up 8-2.

The Snappers answered back in the sixth, but they could only manage one run after a pair of doubles from James Harris and Max Kuhn, respectively. There were no runs scored in the seventh for the Snappers but the Oakland A's second round draft pick, Mikey White, got his first hit as a Snapper as he singled to right field.

After loading the bases, Kevin Johnson was replaced by Lee Sosa. After inheriting the bases loaded, Sosa started off with a strikeout, giving the Bandits two outs. However, the Snappers fell victim to another bases clearing double, this time by Nick Tanielu.

With the Score 11-3 in the bottom of the ninth with two outs, the Snappers managed to produce one run, but fell short in this one and lost the first game of the series to the Bandits, 11-4.

The Beloit Snappers are 40-61 on the season and 14-17 in the second half. Beloit hopes to even up the series against the Quad Cities River Bandits tomorrow night.
