Drive poised to make 2nd consecutive trip to post-season
August 26, 2010
With 12 games remaining in the 2010 regular season, and the South Atlantic League's second half Southern Division coming down to the wire, the Greenville Drive announced today that fans can begin reserving playoff tickets.

However, in hopes of jinxing first place Asheville, who currently have a 1.0 game advantage in the standings, the Drive announced that they will be selling Asheville Tourists playoff tickets.*

"According to our division rival, they Asheville Tourists, they have already locked up the second half championship, as they started selling playoff tickets over a week ago!" noted Drive General Manager Mike deMaine. "Even though it continues to be a tight race, we have decided to help the Tourists sell tickets to their "upcoming" playoff game(s) - it's the least we can do after sweeping them in the divisional round of the playoffs a year ago."

Beginning today, fans can reserve their 2010 Tourists playoff tickets by visiting the Drive Box Office at Fluor Field, calling (864) 240-4528, or logging onto www.GreenvilleDrive.com. Ticket prices range from $5 to $8, which is less expensive than the Tourists advertised playoff ticket prices!

Should the Tourists falter (as is likely) over the remaining games and the Drive capture the Southern Division pennant, those tickets will be good for the playoff games at Fluor Field. When Greenville overtakes Asheville, the Drive would host the first half champion Savannah Sand Gnats on Wednesday, September 8th, with first pitch at 7:00 PM in Game 1 of the Divisional Championship - which the Drive won last year.

Fluor Field would also be the site of the first two games of the South Atlantic League Championship, against the Northern Division champion, on Monday, September 13th and Tuesday, September 14th, should the Drive advance to that series.

Drive Co-Owner and President, Craig Brown, commented on the playoffs, saying, "It's been a very exciting season and the second half championship is coming down to the wire. Our fans have had the chance to see some of the Red Sox top prospects don a Greenville Drive uniform all year, and I can think of no better way to conclude our 5th anniversary season with our second straight trip to the playoffs, and a possible South Atlantic League Championship."

Beginning tonight, the Drive host the Asheville Tourists for the first and only time this season at Fluor Field. The four-game series has huge playoff implications for both teams, and could inevitably decide who captures the second half Southern Division crown.

*For the official record, Drive fans are NOT reserving Asheville Tourists playoff tickets. They are in fact reserving Greenville Drive playoff tickets. At the time of your reservation, a Drive ticket representative will ask you for the credit card number in which you wish to hold your playoff tickets. Your credit card WILL NOT be charged until the Drive have clinched a spot in the playoffs.
