3rd Annual GRU Run for the GreenJackets 5k

Family Friendly Run set for Saturday, Sept. 5th

AUGUSTA, GA: The Augusta GreenJackets, Single "A" affiliate of the 2014 World Series Champion San Francisco Giants, in conjunction with Georgia Regents University have announced a 5K Race on Saturday, September 5th to benefit the GRU Augusta men's and women's cross country and outdoor track and field programs. The money raised during the "Run for the GreenJackets" will help supplement the GRU Augusta cross country and track teams' budget for equipment, team travel, and scholarships.

"We invite the community to come out and get active to support the GRU Augusta Cross Country and Track Program with this fun run," stated GreenJackets General Manager Tom Denlinger. "Every year this event has grown and we look forward to continuing that trend as we kick of Labor Day Weekend!"

The 5K Race will be held at Lake Olmstead at 78 Milledge Road and race will begin at 7:30am. This exciting 5K race will take runners around Lake Olmstead, up part of Laurel Lane, and over Broad Street. The race will conclude at the finish line inside Lake Olmstead Stadium. The cost for runners to enter is only $25. By registering for the "Run for the GreenJackets" today at https://raceroster.com/events/2015/5886/2015-gru-run-for-the-greenjackets-5k a participant will receive a spot in the race, a GreenJackets gift, and admission into that night's game.

"We are excited to partner with the GreenJackets again for this third year of this race. It has been a great partnership and we look forward to another great race this fall," stated Adam Ward, the GRU Augusta cross country and track and field head coach.

Ward is now in his twelfth year as the head coach of the GRU Augusta programs. Under Ward's direction the cross country programs have won two conference team championships, had multiple trips to the NCAA postseason in both cross country and track and field, and have received numerous academic honorees.

Join the GreenJackets Saturday evening for Fan Appreciation Weekend with a full slate of promotions! The festivities include the GRHealth Key Lanyard giveaway to the first 1,000 guests. First pitch is slated for 7:05pm game against the Charleston Riverdogs affiliate of the New York Yankees. We cap off the evening with post-game kids can run the bases.
