Intimidators Manager Ernie Young to Lead Team USA

KANNAPOLIS, NC - On Thursday, August 26th, USA Baseball officially named Kannapolis Intimidators second-year manager Ernie Young as the manager of the USA team that will compete for a qualifying spot in both the 2011 Pan American Games and the 2011 IBAF Baseball World Cup.

Young, a veteran of eight Major League seasons, was a member of the 2000 USA Olympic team that took home the gold medal in Sydney, Australia. He is one year removed from serving as the hitting coach on the 2009 World Cup Team that compiled a 14-1 record and won the championship against Cuba last summer in Italy.

The team, made up of top Minor League Baseball prospects, will be announced in early September. In late September, the team will gather in Cary, NC to prepare for the tournament that will run from Oct. 1-10 that will serve as the qualifier of the 2011 Pan American Games and the 2011 IBAF Baseball World Cup. The qualifying tournament will be held in San Juan, PR.
