Junior Lake traded to Baltimore Orioles
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Chicago Cubs today acquired right-handed pitcher Tommy Hunter from the Baltimore Orioles for outfielder Junior Lake.
Lake, 25, batted .224 (13-for-58) with one home run and five RBI in 21 games with Chicago this season. He broke into the big leagues with the Cubs in 2013 and has batted .241 (145-for-602) with 16 home runs and 46 RBI in 193 games over the last three seasons.
The Dominican Republic native batted .315 (62-for-197) with seven home runs, 31 RBI and 37 runs scored in 58 games for Iowa this season. He appeared in 112 games as an I-Cub from 2013-15 and batted a combined .299 (125-for-418) with 13 home runs, 56 RBI and 25 stolen bases.
Lake originally signed with the Cubs as a non-drafted free agent at age 17 in 2007. He had been in the Cubs organization for nine seasons and appeared at every position except pitcher and catcher across six levels and the major leagues.
With this roster move, Iowa's active roster is at 23 players plus two players on the disabled list and two players on major league rehab assignment.
