Back to Back Jacks Cap Comeback Over Riders
San Antonio clinched its series against Frisco with a thrilling, 5-4, come-from-behind victory Saturday night before 5,031 at Wolff Stadium.
Right-hander Justin Hancock took the ball for the Missions Saturday, looking to snap a personal four-game losing skid. Hancock was clean through two, before running into major trouble in the third. Frisco plated four in the frame, highlighted by Alex Burg's three-run homer to left. Center fielder Lewis Brinson drove in the final run of the inning with a triple to center. It was the first RBI at the Double-A level for Brinson, who made his debut Friday night.
Those would be the only runs charged to Hancock, who allowed a career-high, tying 10 hits in his five innings of work.
The four-run deficit appeared for awhile to be plenty for spot starter Edwar Cabrera, who did not allow a hit until the fifth. However, the southpaw ran into trouble of his own in the bottom of the sixth.
Kyle Gaedele opened the frame with a double and quickly moved to third when Luis Domoromo followed with a single. After Cabrera was replaced by right-hander Adam Parks (Double-A debut), Benji Gonzalez got San Antonio on the board when he scored Gaedele with a groundout. Alberth Martinez trimmed the Missions' deficit to two when he followed with a single to right. That brought up Hunter Renfroe, who tied the game at four when he took Parks' 1-1 pitch onto the berm in left. Yeison Asencio capped the five-run rally when he drilled one onto the berm himself. It was the second time this season that San Antonio hit back-to-back homers in a game.
The Missions bullpen made sure the lead held as Eury De La Rosa (1-0), Adam Cimber and Cody Hebner (1st Double-A save) allowed just one hit over the final three innings.
Parks (0-1) took the loss after allowing three runs on three hits in his only inning of work.
San Antonio (15-21, 46-60) looks to sweep Frisco (17-18, 46-59) Sunday, with first pitch set for 6:05 PM. Right-hander Casey Kelly (1-5, 4.26) will get the ball for the Missions, while the 'Riders counter with lefty Frank Lopez (3-4, 4.53). The first 500 kids 12 & under to enter Wolff Stadium Sunday will receive a free Ballapeno pennant courtesy of Kellogg's.
